Exercise is definitely an important part of getting healthy and staying fit but there is more to those things than exercise. Real fitness is more than just going for a run or lifting weights once in a while. You need to be smart in every part of your life if you really want to get fit. As you age, leading a healthy life and being fit will become more important than ever. Think about it for a minute: how often do you think things like "I need to be healthier" during each day, week, month and year?
Join a program. There are all sorts of programs that you can join to help you increase your fitness. You probably have a variety of fitness programs available to you through your area gym or community center. If those aren't what you are looking for, you can find a variety of programs online. If you want to work on your endurance as well as your fitness Couch to 5K is great. Jillian Michaels program (30 Day Shred) is also very very popular. These are just two of the programs that people swear have worked for them. Don't be afraid to take some time to find the program that is best for you!
Your entire body needs to be worked on. Do not listen to anyone who tells you that you only have to work on the areas of your body that you do not like. If you really want to be fit you will need to put together a fitness routine that works your whole body inside and out. Cardiovascular work, endurance work and strength work are all necessary. You will need to exercise all of your muscle systems if you want your body to get truly healthy. Concentrating on just a few areas will only "beef up" those same areas which will make you feel bigger than you felt before you started working out.
You don't have to spend hours and hours at the gym if you want to do a full workout. You can work your whole body with just a single activity by using the elliptical trainer or rowing machine. You only need to spend twenty minutes on one of these machines to tone and train your whole body. Spending twenty minutes on one of these machines is the same thing as spending sixty minutes working out each of your major muscle systems separately. Lots of people opt for these machines because they help increase one's level of fitness without requiring hours of effort each day.
You need to remember that real fitness involves your mind and spirit as well as your body.
There is more to real fitness than a few short workouts each week. Of course, doing those few routines is better than doing nothing! Beginning slowly and building up to a regular exercise routine is a good way to begin getting fit. If you add your workout to a healthy diet and smart lifestyle decisions you will be well on your way to achieving total fitness in no time.
