When planning a baby shower for your family or friends take into account the many baby shower traditions you can implement to make it an event that everyone will enjoy. Also, one that the Mother to be will remember.
In the Victorian times it was customary for all baby showers to be held at high noon as they were a blend of baby gift giving and tea parties. Most people still use this rule and have them around lunch or early afternoon hours. You can make a tea bar with a selection of flavored teas for everyone to try and serve finger sandwiches as well. Maybe a candy bars that the mom to be will especially enjoy.
Scheduling of the shower date should be either at four to six weeks from the baby's due date. This gives the mom time to enjoy the festivities without being concerned about going into labor any moment. It also gives enough time to know the sex of the baby as well, so you know how to decorate the room.
A lot of showers are being designed with specific themes in mind. There are an assortment especially for baby to choose from or invent one of your own.
For girls of course the colors pink and purple, princess, animals, fairy tale, popular girls characters like Dora etc. Or ladybugs are just a few theme ideas.
For little boys think blue and pale green colors and for themes try one of these Noah's ark, space, cars, cowboy's, pirates etc. Let your imagination run wild.
For neutral baby shower theme ideas try these: Circus, baby animals, moon and stars, the alphabet, ducks, teddy bears and more. Colors should be in yellows and greens and you could use red and black as well its your preference.
Playing games is a tradition every baby shower includes. Come up with fun ways of using baby items as games. Such as the baby food challenge, baby name game, baby bingo or name that famous baby game.
To save on invitation costs buy card stock for your computer and design your own. With a desktop publishing program you can create cards and more. Let the mum to be make them if she is up to it and remember to make them personal. You can even send those who have internet access e-vites online that are just as beautiful.
The attending guests should all receive a small party favor to show your gratitude and love. These do not have to be fancy or expensive. Some ideas include baby shower chocolate kisses in tin, baby bottle filled with candy, Candles in the shape of a pacifier or baby bottle, personalized magnets, bookmarks, frames etc. These are just some, there are many others you could come up with yourself.
Always send thank you notes out for all that sent you gifts for the baby. Mom to be should remember to mention the gift they sent and how much they enjoyed them coming to her shower. This is one of many baby shower traditions that has to be upheld not only out of respect but courtesy as well.
