Some time ago I read a book which was called "Your Body's Many Cries For Water". What was very interesting for me to learn, were the many benefits of drinking water on our general health.

As the author of the book says, the importance of drinking water is very crucial for our health. To prove his point, he mentions examples of some common ailments and proves, using medical terms, that the underlying cause for these ailments is the fact that we don't drink enough water. I show you some of the examples right below:

When our head hurts

We all suffer from headaches, or even worse migraines from time to time. Some of us more and some others less severely. What you might find surprising to find out, is that more often than not, we should blame ourselves for not drinking enough water.

The biological process of a headache is this: When we don't replenish the water in our bodies by not drinking enough of it, our brain, which itself is 75% water, releases histamines. The creation of these chemical substances in turn cause pain and feeling of tiredness, the common symptoms of headaches. In turn, this makes us slow down our activities. In this way, the level of water in our brain is maintained at a minimum level, allowing our brain to function properly.

Most of the times, a big glass of pure water and a 20 minute break will work better than any pain killer medication to make our headache go away!

Sore Back

Second in my list of the benefits of drinking water comes another ailment which is one of the leading causes for loss of workdays and for the creation of a lot of anguish and pain. This is none other than the back pain.

Permit me to be more clear on what I mean.

The discs which our back consists of, have a hard external surface while inside they are filled with water. Provided that the quantity of the water is maintained at an adequate level, then the discs are performing their function well. This meaning that they are robust enough to help our backbone support the weight of our body.

When we move our body, then pressure is exerted and released on the discs depending on the type of movement. This creates a suction which allows fluids in the body to enter the disc, thus keeping them properly hydrated.

The problem begins when we don't replenish our body's natural stock of water by drinking enough quantities. When the discs are shifting, then there is not enough water around them to be sucked inside, as explained above. The result is devastating: The internal fluids are gradually depleted and so the outer shell of the discs is no longer supported. Without this support, our poor discs are helpless, as the whole weight of the body is shifted on them! Pain and swelling ensues, putting us in distress and agony.

Hypertension

Water also plays a vital role in the biological process associated with high blood pressure.

As experts on internal medicine claim, one of the leading causes of high blood pressure is low blood volume. As the basic constituent of the blood is water (83% of our blood to be precise is just plain water), then you can understand that when we deprive ourselves of this valuable fluid, then the blood volume goes down.

In reaction to the reduced volume of blood, our body guides most of the blood flow to the most vital organs, shutting off supply to less important ones. This upsetting produces hypertension throughout the blood circulatory system.

To summarize, it goes without saying that improving your quality of life can be as simple as getting into the habit of drinking more water each and every day.

One word of caution: In order to benefit the most and avoid any adverse effects on you health, both yours and your family's, make sure that the water you consume at your house is top quality. Considering now that, based on reports and statistics issued not only by private but also by government institutions, it is widely acceptable that both tap and bottled water quality leaves much to be desired, I should advice that time investigating your options about what you can do, will be time well spent.
