The Many Faces of Beauty
Article Source: HealthSnare.com
What, specifically, is beauty? In general terms, it is something that gives us pleasure. Some people may see beauty as a perfect sunset, while others think that the moon and the stars at night are the most beautiful thing they have ever seen. Beauty truly is "in the eye of the beholder." It is how you feel when you see or sense something that gives you immense pleasure.
When you say the word beauty, most people associate it with an object of sight, or something that is tangible. A beautiful woman perhaps. Yet there are beautiful things everywhere that we somehow fail to see or notice. Perhaps we are conditioned to define beauty as something physical, as an object that we can actually touch and feel. True beauty can be invisible, also. The soft touch of a breeze on our skin can be a thing of beauty, yet it can't be seen. What makes you feel good? Do you have to see it to appreciate its beauty?
Snowflakes are beautiful for their simplicity and the fact that no two are alike. They don't last long, but they are a thing of beauty while they are here. Perhaps you find beauty in the face of a newborn child. The simple act of bringing a new life into the world may be how you perceive the word. Maybe you are the type of person that sees below the outer layer to discover the true beauty of an object that someone else would consider ugly. The idea and definition of beauty differ from person to person.
Beauty doesn't always have to be seen to be appreciated. Perhaps it can be felt. The touch of a loved one, the cry of a newborn baby, the friendly chirping of the early morning birds outside your window. The sense of well-being you get from something familiar and comfortable. The warmth of a cozy fire on a snowy afternoon, the sound of rain on a tin roof. All these things can be considered beautiful to the one who looks beyond the physical aspect of the word. Look into yourself to experience the true meaning of the word beauty.
Dig beneath the surface to discover the true beauty of something. Don't judge the outside until you see what lies beneath. Every creature, every person, and all objects have a beauty of their own. It is up to you to take the time to discover what it is. We all need to slow down and ask ourselves what it is that makes up all the beautiful things in the world. Appreciation for our surroundings will give one the true concept of the word beauty. If one were to slow down each day, they would see that the simplest objects hold a beauty of their own.
Get up each morning expecting to find beauty in the world. Don't take anything for granted. Turn each corner in your life excitedly. Look forward to finding the beauty in something unexpected, or something you may have overlooked in your haste to get through the day. Beauty is everywhere if you take the time to look for it. Slow down and enjoy the simple pleasures, and you will find beauty wherever you are.
