The English phrase, 'remote viewer' can be analyzed after the break it into its two constituent parts. 'Remote', as written in the Webster's dictionary, means 'far removed in place, time, and chain of causation or relation'. A 'viewer' is someone who perceives. Thus, a 'remote viewer' is an individual who can see things or events, without actually being present in the place of occurrence.
Remote viewers are thought to be mystics with a life steeped in black magic and the dark arts. There were many misconceptions regarding clairvoyants since the branch of occult sciences was not very well researched and hence feared since fear arises from ignorance. A remote viewer may observe a site through the eyes of someone present at the site, independently, through images of the past or from the future. These are all different types of remote viewing.
Remote viewers have not had it easy. They have treated with utter contempt, grave distrust and malevolence. They have been laughed at. In the middle ages, some had been burnt at the stake, after being called 'witches'. This had happened because people have always associated anything that is psychical, as 'dark' and 'evil'.
But things changed in the 19th century, as the New Age movement gained ground. People started reading and learning about psychics, clairvoyants and remote viewers. Some brave and adventurous scholars started doing research on these topics, and slowly the ones who had once been treated so badly, started gaining popularity.
The subject especially gained popularity in the 1990s after the public read about a $20 million undertaking of the US government to find any military based application of remote viewing, known as the Stargate project. However, the project officials were disbanded and the project discontinued due to lack of perceived evidence.
Now, the reason why people are striving to gain knowledge is to find a single postulate that governs the functioning of all systems that exist or shall exist later. Or, the law of the universe that is represented by a differential equation; if we are able to formulate such a law taking into account all the countless variables that make up the universe, we shall have known all that there is to know. Or, our knowledge could be compared to that of the Almighty.
Let us take the simple example of a singer, singing a romantic ballad. If we could find out the DEU of the singer, then we would be able to figure out the circumstances which led the singer to sing the particular song. The DEU would also tell us what his emotions were before he sang it, while singing it, and what they would be after the song is done.
This is however assuming that we know the proper working of the law. Even if we don't, the law functions independently without our knowledge. It is this law that allows us to guess the number of sheep grazing on a plot of land by an arbitrary glance without actually counting them.
We can safely conclude by saying that a remote viewer is an individual who is NOT a complete novice when it comes to figuring out the differential equation of the universe. Most of the times, the remote viewer does not understand the law, and its intricacies. But it is still a lot more than what the others are capable of. The mind and the psyche of the remote viewer are more evolved than the others, and so he is able to perceive things that others can't.
