Living With Back Pain

You roll out of bed in the morning, your feet hit the floor, and your back gives out! What is going on? You actually felt pretty good the night before, so what happened to your back while you were sleeping? Well, if you are like 90% of all Americans, you are experiencing sudden, unexplained back pain for a number of reasons. It will come on suddenly, and often leave the same way. For others, it may become an everyday occurrence.
Many things can be attributed to back pain. Accidents involving the spine, straining or lifting unusually heavy objects, sleeping on a too soft mattress, or improper posture, are only a few of the reasons. Most back pain complaints will resolve themselves in a few months, either with, or without treatment. Some people will use heat or ice, and take an over the counter anti inflammatory to relieve the pain. It is unknown if these have any effect. Some people say that some types of pain are relieved by one of these methods, but most only find a little relief.
A visit to a chiropractor for manipulation of the spine has been known to relieve certain types of back pain. It is more effective if done as soon as the pain develops. Again, long term effects of this treatment are not accurately known. A patient must explain carefully just where the pain originates from for the chiropractor to effectively treat it. Chiropractors are professionals who have been schooled and trained in the treatment of specific back problems. They will be able to tell what is causing the pain if you explain where it is you are hurting.
You may have a problem with the discs in you back. A long ago injury could just now be showing up and giving you problems. You may have thought that you had recovered from a back injury or trauma, but the pain doesn't always happen immediately. It may take years for the damage that was done to manifest itself as pain. Ask your doctor about it and see if he will recommend that you have an x ray of the area.
If you get a new mattress and do all you can to relieve the pain with no results, it might be time to visit a chiropractor and have a full workup. Their specialty is relieving unexplained back issues, and often all you will need is one or two visits to have you feeling back in tip top shape. Don't stop seeing them too soon, or the pain just might return with a vengeance. It takes time to work out the problem. Trust them to take good care of you and your back.
Don't be discouraged if your back actually feels worse after your initial visit. This is the one thing that most people complain about after seeing a chiropractor for the first time. The pain seems to be worse than it was. Don't let this stop you from going back. Your back is being realigned after years of being in the incorrect position, and it is going to take a little time for it to become used to being corrected. You will find that you are feeling better after each session, which is why you shouldn't stop going. Your chiropractor will let you know when you may stop coming so often.
