Suffering from an itchy scalp can be very frustrating for most. An itchy scalp can happen because of a lot of things. Some of the annoying causes are as below.
## The Dreaded Dandruff Problem
Otherwise known as "seborrheic dermatitis", this is actually an overproduction of cells in your skin. This in turn leads to abnormal dryness and flakiness. It it most easily noticed as those white flakes that lay in your hair or fall and land on your clothing.
Dandruff can have an effect on people with too much hair product on them, or buildup in your hair. It can also happen with excessive use of hair dryers, curling irons or coloring products. Infrequent hair washing could also result in dandruff. Most people suffer from terrible dandruff during winter when the air is driest as well as the indoor heating and too-tight snow caps.
## Contact Dermatitis
Some people tend to get it when they come into contact with poisonous plant like poison ivy. Some other factors that contribute to this problem are soaps, detergents, hair coloring products as well as certain types of food. These types of contact are usually the common cause for this problem.
Another thing that could contribute to this problem is allergic reactions. This especially happens when our body can't tolerate certain types of contact like metals or dyes. It's crucial to find out the root of the problem that is triggering this allergic reaction and treat it.
## Don't Be One to Ignore Psoriasis
This causes a red rash often with a thickening of the skin. This is likely a genetic condition with upwards of 4% of the population suffering from this form of dry scalp. Topical lotions are usually given to relieve the symptoms.
## Head Lice
It's hard to know which is the best dandruff shampoo or the most effective treatment for some of this conditions. Even stress is known to be a cause of scalp conditions. Talk to your doctor and discuss the causes of these problems. There may not be a quick cure but you will at least find solutions to relieve some of the dryness and itchiness. Importantly, try not to scratch your scalp as this will cause the discomfort to spread and/or increase.
It's not easy to determine the best shampoo or treatment for some of these issues. Stress, for one thing, can also contribute to scalp problems. Consult your doctor and talk about the possible things that cause your itchy scalp. There may not be any quick fixes around but at least you will be able to get something to sooth the nasty dryness and itchiness. Most importantly, take note not to scratch your scalp as it will make your scalp itchiness worse and spread to other areas.
