This bleaching compound typically contains elevated concentrations of peroxide (15-50%) as such the dentist will as a rule place some form of protection around the gums so that just the teeth are exposed to the compound. The whitening gel is at this time applied to the outside of the teeth and exposed for approximately 1 hour to this laser light, which activates it and the whole process is speeded up, making the whitening more efficient.
