Baby Boomers and the importance of Health and Nutrition
Baby Boomers are reaching retirement age in huge numbers. They are ready to walk away from stressful careers, their kids are either off to college or graduated, and they are possibly grandparents with a whole set of other stresses that go with grandparenting. It is so easy to forget about Health and Nutrition when it comes to us.
We always worry about the kids and what THEY eat, the aging parent and THEIR nutritional needs, but what about US? If you are honest with yourself, chances are YOU are the last person you think about when it comes to Health and especially Nutrition.
How will you take care of your children, grandchildren and aging parents if YOU get sick because you have managed to neglect the one person who is the glue in the whole scenario?
I am embarassed to admit that this didn't hit ME until I hit that 50 number. I started envisioning growing older and my joints wearing out due to my being overweight and not excercising. Since my ultimate goal by the time I turn 55 is to own a Cabin in the woods of Vermont, I realize now that I have got to get in shape. What fun will it be to live in Vermont, with all that glorious scenery around me, and not be able to go out for long walks in the woods? I have been doing a lot of research on nutrition and supplements.
Antioxidants are one of the biggest things that I am reading up on right now.
It seems Antioxidants are the wonder "drug" for helping your body repair itself. I have also discovered that most people take vitamins all at once, the entire day's requirement. This isn't such a great idea because your body is not able to absorb all of it and ends up passing it right thru!
Vitamins are far more effective when you take them in smaller doses thruout the course of the day. I find myself reading a whole lot more about health and aging now. I have set my goal age to 115 (that's right! 115!!!) so I need to be sure to do whatever it takes to make it there!
Stress reduction is the very first thing on my "Live to be 115 List". This will definitely come into play when I walk away from my job in 2009 and work my Internet business from home. I can actually smell the pine trees from the front porch of that Cabin in the woods while I work from a laptop!
Eat healthy and lose weight is number two. I am focusing on adding a whole lot more protein to my diet. This actually helps your body burn fat and build muscle. Those body builders know what they're doing when they increase that protein before competitions.
Take a yoga class comes in third. This will help with stress reduction and will also help me become more limber so that I am more flexible and able to walk without feeling as stiff as a board! Some days my own mother can outrun me!
Really, we are living so much longer than our grandparents these days. I just want to be able to enjoy life and be able to blow out the candles on that Birthday cake on my 115th Birthday!!!
Do yourself a favor and just sit for a moment and evaluate YOUR life and YOUR health habits. Could YOU benefit from some of the things that I am working on for myself?
