A Useful Bed Bug Treatment And Extermination
Article Source: HealthSnare.com
Although the classic "Sleep Tight" bedtime rhyme makes bed bugs seem cute these tiny night time creatures can bite. They are very similar to fleas and live in mattresses and cushions. There are a bunch of different species of bed bugs, each one praying on a different animal. Bed bug treatment requires patience.
Similar to ticks bed bugs can live a very long time without feeding, and usually only eat for a few minutes about once a week. This would not be so bad except they cause skin irritation and can make humans itch much like fleas can.
Most of the time you get bed bugs from somewhere else. People can get them by buying used furniture and mattresses, visiting a house that has them, or from other animals. Unfortunately there is nothing that you can do to prevent them from gaining a foothold in your home.
How you know that you are infested is the appearance of rashes, itching, black or brown spots on your mattress or linens, and possibly in the crevices of your furniture. They are hard to see and many people think they have fleas. Bed bugs are smaller than fleas.
There are very few reliable treatments for bed bugs. One of the best treatments for just the infestation in your bed is to get a mattress cover. Mattress covers of this type zip all the way around the bed. Instead of just being a slip cover for the top they actually zip up. This closes the bed bug in and they basically cannot get to their food source namely you. They take about six to eighteen months to completely die off.
There are some insecticides that you can use to treat a bed bug infestation. If you use a insecticide dust you will need to make sure that it is the type that you can leave on the mattress or you need to know how to dispose of it properly.
There are also sprays and bed bug kits that contain covers, dusts, and sprays. In order to treat the infestation treating your bed just is not enough. You will need to treat the baseboards, mattress, sheets, linens, pillows, and surrounding furniture.
Using a combination of different products or a kit is the best way to treat bed bugs. Try covering your mattress, treating floors and baseboards, and then dusting any carpet with the powder. Bed bugs are very annoying and very hard to get rid of. It takes several treatments and at least six to eighteen months to get rid of them completely.
You have to be thorough no matter where you got the bed bugs or where in your home they are. They can multiply very quickly and will get out of hand. Make sure to follow all of the directions no matter what product that you buy. All of the methods described can be used with each other.
When using a cover in conjunction with an insecticide you have to be sure that you let the liquid dry before you cover it to reduce the chance of mildew. When trying to get rid of bed bugs remember to use common sense as well as the chosen treatment or treatments. Bed bug treatment is easy if you are thorough. If you have tried all of these things then it might be time to call in a pest control company.
