There are many fitness stepper benefits that are guaranteed for everybody who uses one consistently. Unfortunately just owning one, or having a gym membership, in and of itself will not do you much good. But, if you get in the habit, and adhere to a schedule where you will use your stepper, then you can expect to see and feel excellent results.
A fitness stepper, or stair stepper is a device made for working out that mimics, to one degree or another, the motion of climbing stairs. If you have ever climbed several flights of stairs without stopping to rest between floors, you have some idea of the potential work our you can get from a fitness stepper.
Running up, even a single flight of stairs, will usually increase your heat rate and your breathing rate, which is the very beginning of a cardiovascular workout (for your lungs and heart.) Exercising your heart and lungs is good for you, obviously. But, it also burns off excess fat that is stored on your body. However, a few flights of stairs will not do the job. You need at least thirty minutes at a time.
Most types of exercises that allow you to get a cardiovascular workout, come with the price of high impact upon your joints, bones, muscles & ligaments. Running provides a great heart and lungs workout, but the list of common running injuries is very long, and painful; just to read. A stepper provides a low impact movement that eliminates most of the injuries, runners risk.
The list of muscles that are affected by a fitness stepper workout is impressive, to put it mildly. They include the two hip flexors, that are attached to the femur bone; and the three gluteal muscles, more commonly referred to as, the buttocks.
Other stepper muscle targets include; the two muscles of the calves, the four muscles known as the quadraceps, (at the front of the thigh, starting above the knee), and the three muscles, known as the hamstrings, on the underside of the thigh.
A lot of people are concerned about how many calories they can burn with various activities. If you have your stepper set to a vigorous workout level, you can burn as much as 107 calories for every 25 pounds of body weight, during a single sixty minute session. A petite 100 pound gal could get fitness stepper benefits, burning up to 428 calories, while a 200 pound guy could burn about 856 calories.
