1. Throw away your scale. What really matter is the way you look. To look better you need two things - less fat and more muscle. Josef says he has never met a woman (other than bodybuilders) who actually have too much muscle. If you drop 20 pounds of fat, and gain 10 pounds of muscle you will look like yu dropped 30, even though the scale will only reveal a 10 pound drop.
2. Faster burns more fat faster. Intense training like interval training will help you shed your unwanted fat much faster than jogging will. The intense nature of interval training causes your body to get more of its energy from your body-fat. Regular cardio will not do this. Here's how Josef likes to start off his clients: pick anything you like - elliptical, running, etc., then warm up for 5min. Round one is 1min ALL OUT, then 2min slow/recovery pace. Repeat for 4 rounds.
3. Get rid of the aerobics. Aerobic exercise - like jogging - is pretty much a complete waste of time in the quest for a bikini ready body. Research in the Journal of Obesity shows that the average woman will drop fewer than 4 pounds with 6 hours per week of aerobic exercise doen for an entire year.
4. Get heavy! Now that we've gotten rid of the junk training - the aerobics, lets do something worth your time - metabolic resistance training. These are total body, intense workouts where you alternate upper and lower body exercises - like 12 lunges followed by 12 push-ups. This will tone and tighten your body like nothing else.
5. Get used to cutting out the carbs. Lets face it, for as long as we can remember people have been testing the theory of what carbs do to someone trying to loose weight and it has been proven that you can drop up to 75 to 100% more fat then you would on a regular low fat diet. You will also find that your energy level will increase and you will not be as hungry.
