Plastic Surgery Or Cosmetic Surgery Which One Do I Need?
For a layman or even professionals, the words "plastic surgery" and "cosmetic surgery" are use interchangeably. These words however pertain to two different categories of surgery that are currently available in the medical world.
Plastic surgery refers to the repair or replacement of physical defects of form or function involving the skin, musculoskeletal system, crainomaxillofacial structure, hand extremities, breast and trunk and external genitalia. Often a person seeks reconstructive surgery due to a malformation that they would like to have corrected. The most common reconstructive procedures are tumor removal, laceration repair, scar repair and hand surgery.
Take for example the case for a breast issue. A breast augmentation, which is done to reconstruct the shape of the breast for aesthetics beauty is placed under the category of cosmetic surgery. A breast cancer on the other hand which requires the surgery of the breast due to health complications is put under the category of plastic surgery.
From here you can conclude that cosmetic surgery differs from plastic surgery because of the aim of this procedure. Cosmetic surgery is done to take a normal body structure and improve it to make it look better and thus improve a person's self-confidence when it comes to their physical appearances. This procedure is done not because it is really necessary but because the person just desires to improve their looks to become more appealing. Some examples of these procedure that are popular specially among TV personalities and beauty aficionados are chemical peel, liposuction, facelifts, hair transplant and a lot more.
Which ever you want to undergo between these two procedures, it is essential that you have a clear picture of what you are going into. There are many unqualified practitioners that are performing these surgeries. Make sure that before you agree with them, you have already done your research about that clinic or hospital and the surgeon who will your operation. Be skeptical if you are getting super cheap quotes for these procedures. Never compromise your safety for aesthetic purposes.
