Helping you find your next dental appointment whatever the reason
Article Source: HealthSnare.com
Whether you like it or not, visiting the dentist is important. By not looking after your teeth could lead to a whole host of problems such as gingivitis, trench mouth and canker sores, or it may be an unexpected cracked tooth that is causing you problems. Although you might believe your teeth are fine a dentist can sometimes spot potential problems which may crop up in the near future. For those aged under eighteen the National Health Service (NHS) recommends an appointment each year but for those older than this the gap between your next and your last appointment could be as much as two years although this length of time can change depending on your lifestyle such as whether you smoke or consume excessive amounts of sugary food or drink.
I can't even find a dentist!
Despite the health benefits of seeing your dentist, there are some who choose not to but many in the UK cannot find a dentist due to the demand for these services. In 2009/10, 22,000 dentists performed work for the NHS in the UK which was a rise of 3.1% on the figures for the previous year. This works out to just over 55% of the population or 28.5 million people so there is increasing demand being put upon the NHS.
The NHS route
Although many believe all NHS treatment is free, this does not apply to dentistry. The charges come in three bands which are as following. £16.50 pays for carrying out minor treatments with £45.60 covering all the treatments which you get in the previous cost but for more serious treatment, such as having a root canal, the price jumps up to £198 with other minor work included in this price.
Private dentistry
There are other avenues to pursue though if you cannot receive treatment from an NHS dentist and that is to make an appointment with a Private Practice. Unlike the NHS, Private dentists can set the amount they charge and it is always recommended to check out several Private surgeries before choosing the most reasonably priced one.
Up to you
To find out where your nearest NHS dentist is based, contact your local services. Or, by typing in "Private Dentistry" in an internet search engine then this should hopefully provide you or your loved ones with all the information you need.
